
Presentation
Exposition of a topic by a single speaker, followed
or not by a question and answer session.
Brainstorming
Dynamic free flow of ideas between a group covering
a specific issue seeking a commonly agreed-to
solution. It requires an identified leader as
a gatekeeper.
Seminar
Sequence of activities for the training of the
attendees in a particular subject matter by a
single or team of experts. It does not require
a final conclusion or agreement from the attendees.
It can vary in length, from 1 to several days.
Conference
Form of presentation characterized by an exposition
by an authority in the particular subject for
a large audience. There is a moderator to coordinate
the flow and order of the presentations. Due to
its more formal nature, questions from the audience
are submitted only in writing duly identified
at the end of the session.
Convention
Consists of a gathering of professionals from
the same company or industry. It can serve different
purposes such as: sales reviews, product/service
launches, exchanges of information, corporate
or industry celebrations or special occasions.
Symposium
Meeting of a group of highly specialized scientific
professionals under the coordination of a moderator
to a selected audience. The speakers present different
parts of the same subject matter leading into
a debate stage.
Panel
Question and answer session from a group of speakers
to an audience. It involves an exchange of ideas
and opinions between the panelists as well as
open discussion from the audience.
Round
Table Discussion
An interaction of a group of speakers prior to
the opening to audience participation The discussion
involves a time constraint.
Forum
A large meeting that involves intense participation
and interaction by the audience. The idea is to
incite public opinion about social issues. A moderator
brings the issue to the floor and seeks the involvement
and opinions of the participants. Free debate
will continue until conclusions are drawn.
Debate
Discussion between two or more speakers dedicated
to a single topic. There is no participation from
the audience.
Meetings
Applies to industry associations, trade groups,
clubs or boards. The objective is to discuss specific
issues related to the group involved.
